Das Gebiet des Naturparks La Grande Brière ist eine der größten Sumpf- und Lagunenlandschaften Frankreichs und ist nach der Camargue der zweitgrößte Regionalpark des Landes. Die sumpfige Beckenlandschaft wurde durch menschliche Eingriffe stark verändert (Kanalisierung, Fischfang, Schilfgewinnung), hat aber dennoch ihren einzigartigen Charakter bewahrt. Auf kleineren „Inseln“ wurden Dörfer angelegt, und inzwischen durchziehen einige wenige Straßen das Gebiet. Das Boot ist jedoch nach wie vor ein wichtiges Fortbewegungsmittel.
Als ich im März 1986 dort war, hatte ich Glück mit dem Wetter und konnte diese wunderschöne Lichtstimmung über den überschwemmten Wiesen des Grand Brière aufnehmen. Die gespenstischen Zaunpfähle im Vordergrund und der dunkle Himmel mit seinen einzelnen Wolkenlöchern erzeugen eine eigenartige, düster-gespenstische Atmosphäre.

The La Grande Brière Nature Park is one of the largest marsh and lagoon landscapes in France and is the second largest regional park in the country after the Camargue. The marshy basin landscape has been heavily modified by human intervention (canalisation, fishing, reed harvesting), but has nevertheless retained its unique character. Villages have been built on small ‘islands’ and a few roads now criss-cross the area. However, the boat is still an important means of transport.
When I was there in March 1986, I was lucky with the weather and was able to capture this beautiful light mood over the flooded meadows of the Grand Brière. The ghostly fence posts in the foreground and the dark sky with its individual holes in the clouds create a strange, gloomy and ghostly atmosphere.
