Majestätisch thront St. Mawes Castle über dem Fal-Ästuar, errichtet als Teil von Heinrichs VIII. Befestigungsprogramm gegen französische Invasionen. Zusammen mit dem Penndennis Castle auf der gegenüberliegenden Flussseite bildet es einen Teil der berühmten Kette der „Henrician Castles“.
Im Gegensatz zum Penndennis Castle, das auf einer Landspitze thront, schmiegt sich St. Mawes Castle an den Hang und bietet atemberaubende Ausblicke auf den Fal. Erbaut zwischen 1539 und 1545, beeindruckt die Burg nicht nur durch ihre imposante Architektur, sondern auch durch ihre malerische Lage.
Als ich die Burg besuchte, blühten Mohnblumen auf dem Ringwall, so dass ich dieses phantastische Foto mit den Mohnblumen vor dem Castle aufnehmen konnte. Den besonderen Effekt der hellen Mohnblumenblüten in diesem Schwarz-Weiß-Foto habe ich durch den Einsatz des Rotfilters verstärkt.
St Mawes Castle

St Mawes Castle towers majestically over the Fal estuary, built as part of Henry VIII’s fortification programme against French invasions. Together with Penndennis Castle on the opposite side of the river, it forms part of the famous chain of ‘Henrician Castles’.
In contrast to Penndennis Castle, which is perched on a headland, St Mawes Castle nestles on the hillside and offers breathtaking views of the Fal. Built between 1539 and 1545, the castle not only impresses with its imposing architecture, but also with its picturesque location.
When I visited the castle, poppies were blooming on the ramparts, so I was able to take this fantastic photo of the poppies in front of the castle. I enhanced the special effect of the bright poppy flowers in this black and white photo by using the red filter.
