Amorgos, die östlichste Insel der Kykladen, war Mitte der 1990er-Jahre noch sehr ursprünglich und wurde gerade erst touristisch entdeckt. Wir hatten das unterschätzt, die Infrastruktur war so eingeschränkt, dass ein echtes Fortkommen auf der Insel fast nur zu Fuß möglich war.
Amorgos ist eine extrem trockene und wasserarme Insel. Die Ruinen alter Wassermühlen deuten jedoch auf größere Wasservorkommen in der Vergangenheit hin. Oberhalb des Hauptortes Chora konnte ich während einer Wanderung einige dieser malerischen Windmühlenruinen vor der kargen Bergkulisse fotografieren.

Amorgos, the easternmost island of the Cyclades, was still very unspoilt in the mid-1990s and had only just been discovered by tourists. We had underestimated this, the infrastructure was so limited that it was almost only possible to really get around the island on foot.
Amorgos is an extremely dry island with very little water. However, the ruins of old watermills indicate that there was a more water in the past. During a hike above the main town of Chora, I was able to photograph some of these picturesque windmill ruins against the barren mountain backdrop.
