Nachdem ich im Februar 1988 von der abgebrochenen Annapurna-Wanderung zurückgekehrt war, hatte ich noch viel Zeit bis zum Semesterbeginn. Ich fühlte mich ruhelos und wollte unbedingt fotografieren. Eines Nachmittags machte ich mich mit dem Fahrrad und meinem großen Stativ auf den Weg, um unbedingt etwas zu fotografieren. Doch ich entdeckte einfach kein besonderes Motiv. Kurz vor Abbruch der Tour lief ich noch über ein paar Wiesen und entdeckte diesen Graben.
Ich wollte unbedingt ein interessantes Foto machen und stellte das Stativ im Graben auf, um eine niedrige Perspektive zu haben. So wirkt der Graben größer, als er in Wirklichkeit ist. Die tiefe Kameraposition zusammen mit dem Weitwinkelobjektiv verleihen dem Bild einen spannenden Eindruck. Es ist tatsächlich eines meiner schönsten Bilder aus dem Hausbrucher Moor und es ist ein Beispiel dafür, dass auch das fast zwanghafte Fotografieren manchmal zu guten Ergebnissen führen kann.

After returning from the aborted Annapurna hike in February 1988, I still had plenty of time before the start of term. I felt restless and really wanted to take photographs. One afternoon, I set off on my bike with my large tripod, determined to take some photos. But I just couldn’t find anything special. Shortly before breaking off the tour, I walked across a few meadows and discovered this ditch.
I really wanted to take an interesting photo and set up the tripod in the ditch to get a low perspective. This makes the ditch look bigger than it actually is. The low camera position together with the wide-angle lens give the picture an exciting look. It is actually one of my favourite pictures from the Hausbrucher Moor and it is an example of how almost obsessive photography can sometimes lead to good results.
