Im März 1993 bot sich uns im Dünengebiet von Corralejo ein Bild der Einsamkeit. Noch zu früh im Jahr für einen klassischen Badeurlaub, waren die weiten Sandflächen nahezu menschenleer. Der Wind der vergangenen Tage hatte zudem kunstvolle Sandrippeln geformt, die sich endlos über die Dünen erstreckten.
Einzig eine einsame Pflanze durchbrach die Monotonie des Sandes und bot sich als reizvolles Motiv an. Umgeben von unberührtem Sand, bot sie ein perfektes Zusammenspiel mit dem weiten Himmel, dem harten Licht und den vom Wind geformten Rippeln. Trotz des fliegenden Sandes, der meine Kamera bedrohte, wagte ich einige Aufnahmen. Die Kombination aus dem tiefblauen Himmel, dem harten Licht und den vom Wind geformten Rippeln ergab ein stimmungsvolles Bild. Der Einsatz des Rotfilters intensivierte die Kontraste zwischen dem hellen Dünensand und dem tiefblauen Himmel. An diesem Tag stimmte einfach alles.

In the dunes of Corralejo

Fuerteventura, Canary Islands, Spain, 1993

In March 1993, the dune area of Corralejo presented us with a picture of solitude. Still too early in the year for a classic beach holiday, the wide expanses of sand were almost deserted. The winds of the past few days had also sculpted elaborate ribs of sand that stretched endlessly across the dunes.
Only one solitary plant broke the monotony of the sand and presented itself as an attractive motif. Surrounded by untouched sand, it offered a perfect interplay with the vast sky, the harsh light and the ripples formed by the wind. Despite the flying sand threatening my camera, I dared to take a few shots. The combination of the deep blue sky, the harsh light and the ripples formed by the wind produced an atmospheric image. The use of the red filter intensified the contrasts between the light-coloured dune sand and the deep blue sky. Everything was just right on this day.
