Die „4 Glocken von Oia“ sind zweifellos ein beliebtes und im Internet leicht auffindbares Fotomotiv. Sucht man jedoch jetzt nachträglich nach ihrem genauen Standort in Oia, wird es schnell komplizierter. Die Fotos dieses markanten Glockenturms sind erstaunlich widersprüchlich verortet, und die Suche nach dem Namen der zugehörigen Kirche gestaltet sich noch schwieriger.
Manche Bildunterschriften bezeichnen sie als „Kirche von Ekaterini“. Diese Kirche ist zwar bei Google Maps zu finden, jedoch nicht in Verbindung mit diesem spezifischen Glockenturm. Auch andere Beschreibungen passen schlichtweg nicht zur Realität des Glockenturms. Es liegt die Vermutung nahe, dass hier unreflektiert voneinander abgeschrieben wurde. Letztendlich ist das aber nicht weiter wichtig – der Schönheit der Szene tut diese Verwirrung keinen Abbruch.

The ‘4 Bells of Oia’ are undoubtedly a popular photo motif that is easy to find on the internet. However, if you try to find their exact location in Oia afterwards, it quickly becomes more complicated. The photos of this striking bell tower are astonishingly contradictory in terms of location, and finding the name of the church to which it belongs is even more difficult.
Some captions refer to it as the ‘Church of Ekaterini’. This church can be found on Google Maps, but not in connection with this specific bell tower. Other descriptions simply do not match the reality of the bell tower. It seems likely that they have been copied from each other without reflection. Ultimately, however, this is not important – the confusion does not detract from the beauty of the scene.
