Als ich noch am Großneumarkt in Hamburg wohnte, entdeckte ich bei einem Fotohändler ein 500 mm Teleobjektiv mit fester Brennweite zu einem Preis von nur 140 DM. Kurz danach, während eines Ausflugs nach Finkenwerder nahm ich damit die ersten, meiner Meinung nach, beeindruckenden Bilder auf. Für den Ausflug befestigte ich mein schweres Gizzo-Stativ am Fahrradgepäckträger und überquerte mit der HADAG-Fähre die Elbe in Richtung Finkenwerder. Ursprünglich, ohne ein bestimmtes Motiv im Kopf, entdeckte ich gleich zu Beginn meiner Tour im Gorch-Fock-Park dieses herausragende Motiv. Der Kormoran saß wirklich perfekt. Was mir besonders an diesem Bild gefällt, ist die Differenzierung zwischen dem sehr hellen, fast schon schemenhaften Hintergrund und dem klaren Vordergrund. Unter allen Bildern, die ich an diesem Tag aufgenommen habe, weist dieses die beste Komposition auf.
The harbor guard
When I was still living at Großneumarkt in Hamburg, I discovered a 500 mm telephoto lens with a fixed focal length at a photo dealer for a price of only 140 DM. Shortly afterwards, during a trip to Finkenwerder, I took the first and impressive pictures with this new tool. For the trip, I attached my heavy Gizzo tripod to the bicycle rack and took the HADAG ferry across the Elbe towards Finkenwerder. Originally, without a specific motif in mind, I discovered this outstanding motif right at the start of my tour in Gorch-Fock Park. The cormorant was really perfectly positioned. What I particularly like about this picture is the differentiation between the very bright, almost shadowy background and the clear foreground. Of all the pictures I took that day, this one has the best composition.
