Gegen Ende unserer Kalabrien-Reise besuchten mein Kommilitone Rainer und ich Palmi und Lido di Palmi. Eine Attraktion dort ist der bizarre Scoglio dell’Ulivo: Ein wilder Olivenbaum, der auf einem Felsen vor der Küste thront. Sein Alter wird auf mehrere hundert Jahre geschätzt – ein wahrer Natur-Bonsai! Gemeinsam mit dem Felsen steht er unter Naturschutz und wird seit 35 Jahren intensiv geschützt und gepflegt.
Am Nachmittag habe ich den geschwungenen Strand mit seinen ins Meer ragenden Felsen fotografiert. Am Abend habe ich dann den Felsen mit dem Olivenbaum im extremen Gegenlicht der untergehenden Sonne mit dem Teleobjektiv eingefangen. Die Silhouette des Baumes mit dem Felsen vor der Sonne bot einen atemberaubenden Anblick.

Towards the end of our trip to Calabria, my fellow student Rainer and I visited Palmi and Lido di Palmi. One of the attractions there is the bizarre Scoglio dell’Ulivo: a wild olive tree perched on a rock off the coast. It is estimated to be several hundred years old – a true natural bonsai! Together with the rock, it is a nature reserve and has been intensively protected and cared for 35 years. In the afternoon, I photographed the curved beach with its rocks jutting out into the sea. In the evening, I captured the rock with the olive tree in the extreme backlight of the setting sun with a telephoto lens. The silhouette of the tree with the rock in front of the sun was a breathtaking sight.
