Der Tempel von Segesta liegt am Hang des Monte Barbaro, etwa 305 Meter über NN. Schon bei meiner ersten Sizilienreise im Jahr 1981 brach ich von Partinico aus auf, um dieses eindrucksvolle Bauwerk zu besichtigen, und verbrachte dort einen ganzen Tag. Bereits damals war ich tief beeindruckt von der einsamen Pracht des Tempels und seines zugehörigen Theaters. Besonders faszinierte mich die phantastische Lage des Theaters oberhalb des Tempels, mit einem atemberaubenden Blick auf die umliegende Landschaft.
Im Gegensatz zu diesem Besuch waren damals nur wenige Touristen unterwegs. Stattdessen begleitete uns eine Schar streunender Hunde auf unserem Erkundungsgang. Bei diesem jüngsten Besuch konnte ich, obwohl deutlich kürzer vor Ort, einige wunderschöne Fotos dieses herrlich gelegenen Tempels machen, die noch immer zu meinen liebsten Tempelbildern zählen.

The Temple of Segesta is located on the slopes of Monte Barbaro, about 305 metres above sea level. On my first trip to Sicily in 1981, I set off from Partinico to visit this impressive building and spent a whole day there. Even then, I was deeply impressed by the solitary splendour of the temple and its adjoining theatre. I was particularly fascinated by the theatre’s fantastic location above the temple, with a breathtaking view of the surrounding landscape.
In contrast to this visit, there were only a few tourists around at the time. Instead, a pack of stray dogs accompanied us on our exploration. During this most recent visit, although I spent much less time there, I was able to take some beautiful photos of this wonderfully situated temple, which are still among my favourite temple pictures.
