Seit 1968 kenne ich das Hausbrucher Moor. Schon damals stand dieser mächtige, imposante Baum direkt an der Landscheide, die das Hausbrucher Randmoor von der Marsch abtrennt. Leider stand direkt daneben auch immer ein störendes, hässliches kleines Häuschen – vermutlich eine Pumpstation zur Entwässerung. Obwohl ich immer wieder versuchte, die Erle zu fotografieren, und das Häuschen als guten Größenvergleich für ihre imposante Gestalt diente, wollte mir kein wirklich gutes Bild gelingen. Doch dann, während eines Neujahrsspaziergang am 1. Januar 1986, war die Pumpstation verschwunden. Jetzt, gegen Mittag lugte die Sonne wunderschön durch die kahlen Äste der Erle. Das ist das schönste Foto, das ich je von diesem Baum gemacht habe. Leider wurde diese imposante Erle kurz darauf gefällt – ich vermute, die Wurzeln wurden beim Abriss des Pumphäuschens beschädigt.

I have known the Hausbruch Moor since 1968. Even back then, this mighty, imposing tree stood right on the boundary separating the Hausbruch Randmoor from the marsh. Unfortunately, there was always an unsightly little hut right next to it – probably a pumping station for drainage. Although I tried again and again to photograph the alder tree, using the hut as a good size comparison for its imposing stature, I couldn’t get a really good picture. But then, during a New Year’s walk on 1 January 1986, the pumping station had disappeared. Now, around noon, the sun peeked beautifully through the bare branches of the alder. This is the most beautiful photo I have ever taken of this tree. Unfortunately, this imposing alder was felled shortly afterwards – I suspect the roots were damaged when the pump house was demolished.
