Ein stimmungsvoller Abendblick vom Anleger ‚Madonna dell’Orto‘ in Cannaregio über die Lagune hinweg nach Murano und San Michele. Besonders faszinierte mich dieses diffuse, leicht neblige Licht, das die Konturen sanft verschwimmen lässt.
Cannaregio, der am dichtesten besiedelte Stadtteil Venedigs, verdankt seinen Namen wohl der Zeit vor seiner Bebauung, als hier im Sumpfland noch reichlich Schilfrohr (italienisch canna) wuchs. Als überwiegendes Wohn- und Arbeitsviertel besticht Cannaregio weniger durch spektakuläre Prachtbauten als durch sein authentisches, vom Kleingewerbe geprägtes Stadtbild.

An atmospheric evening view from the Madonna dell’Orto pier in Cannaregio across the lagoon to Murano and San Michele. I was particularly fascinated by the diffuse, slightly misty light that gently blurs the contours.
Cannaregio, Venice’s most densely populated district, probably owes its name to the time before it was built up, when reeds (Italian: canna) still grew abundantly here in the marshland. As a predominantly residential and working district, Cannaregio is less impressive for its spectacular magnificent buildings than for its authentic townscape characterised by small businesses.
