Mitten im innersizilianischen Hügelland, der ehemaligen ‚Kornkammer Italiens‘, sind wir zufällig auf Borgo Giuliano gestoßen – ein verlassenes Dorf auf einem Hügel direkt an der Straße. Mehr als den Namen konnte ich zu diesem Dorf nicht herausfinden. Doch der Abstecher zum Dorf hat sich gelohnt. Das schlechte Wetter hat die melancholische Stimmung des Ortes perfekt eingefangen. Die Kirche war für mich zwar kein besonderes Motiv, dafür aber die verfallene Hausruine mit den Zedern direkt daneben. Nicht nur das Dorf selbst, auch die umliegende Hügellandschaft hat mich zu einigen schönen Bildern inspiriert: Ein unerwartetes, tief beeindruckendes Erlebnis an einem grauen Tag irgendwo im Nirgendwo.

In the middle of the hills of inner Sicily, the former “breadbasket of Italy”, we stumbled upon Borgo Giuliano – an abandoned village on a hill right by the road. I couldn’t find out anything more about this village than its name. But the detour to the village was worth it. The bad weather perfectly captured the melancholic atmosphere of the place. The church wasn’t a particularly interesting subject for me, but the ruined house with the cedars right next to it was. Not only the village itself, but also the surrounding hilly landscape inspired me to take some beautiful pictures: an unexpected, deeply impressive experience on a grey day somewhere in the middle of nowhere.
