Urspr\u00fcnglich als Erdh\u00fcgel zur Bestattung von Herrschern errichtet, wurden sie im fr\u00fchen Buddhismus zu Reliquienbeh\u00e4ltern f\u00fcr \u00dcberreste des Buddha und sp\u00e4ter auch bedeutender M\u00f6nche umfunktioniert. Die Stupa von Bodnath, eine der gr\u00f6\u00dften ihrer Art weltweit, pr\u00e4gt die Umgebung deutlich. Als eines der wichtigsten Ziele buddhistischer Pilger aus Nepal und dem Himalaya blickt sie auf eine \u00fcber 1500-j\u00e4hrige Geschichte zur\u00fcck.<br>Mich hat besonders die schlichte Eleganz der Bodnath-Stupa im Kontrast zur \u00fcppigen Gestaltung der Swayambhunath-Stupa beeindruckt. Bodnath strahlt eine friedvolle und ruhige Atmosph\u00e4re aus, die sicherlich auch von der gro\u00dfen tibetischen Gemeinde gepr\u00e4gt wird, die hier seit Jahrhunderten eine spirituelle Heimat gefunden hat. Dennoch wirken die gro\u00dfen Buddha-Augen auf mich etwas bedrohlich.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\" style=\"margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--10);margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--10)\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-garamond-font-family has-large-font-size wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"padding-right:var(--wp--preset--spacing--30);padding-left:var(--wp--preset--spacing--30);font-style:italic;font-weight:600\">Prayer flags at Bodnath<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-garamond-font-family has-large-font-size wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"padding-right:var(--wp--preset--spacing--30);padding-left:var(--wp--preset--spacing--30);font-style:italic;font-weight:400\"><br>Stupa in Bodnath in the Kathmandu Valley, Nepal, 1988<br><br>Stupas are characteristic Buddhist buildings that serve as symbols of Buddha himself and his teachings. Originally built as earth mounds for the burial of rulers, in early Buddhism they were converted into reliquaries for the remains of the Buddha and later also of important monks. The Bodnath Stupa, one of the largest of its kind in the world, clearly characterises the surrounding area. As one of the most important destinations for Buddhist pilgrims from Nepal and the Himalayas, it can look back on over 1500 years of history.<br>I was particularly impressed by the simple elegance of the Bodnath stupa in contrast to the lavish design of the Swayambhunath stupa. Bodnath exudes a peaceful and tranquil atmosphere, which is certainly also characterised by the large Tibetan community that has found a spiritual home here for centuries.
