Heute verfallen sie zusehends oder wurden zu modernen Gesch\u00e4ften, Wohnh\u00e4usern oder Ferienunterk\u00fcnften umgewandelt. Nur wenige, wirklich intakte Exemplare zeugen von einer naturverbundenen Denkweise und inspirieren zu einer Zeitreise in die vorindustrielle \u00c4ra.<br>Im 12. und 13. Jahrhundert gelangten die Windm\u00fchlen auf die Kykladen. Seitdem ranken sich Erz\u00e4hlungen und Gedichte um diese Bauwerke, die zum Wahrzeichen der Inselgruppe avancierten. Einst waren ca. 600 M\u00fchlen auf den Kykladen in Betrieb. Sorgf\u00e4ltig w\u00e4hlte man ihre Standorte nach Windst\u00e4rke und -richtung aus, wobei die Erreichbarkeit f\u00fcr die Dorfbewohner ebenfalls eine Rolle spielte. So thronen sie auf K\u00fcstenanh\u00f6hen und Klippen oder nutzen windreiche Kan\u00e4le zwischen H\u00fcgeln.<br>Die typische Turmm\u00fchle pr\u00e4sentiert sich als zylindrischer Steinbau mit einem konischen, strohgedeckten Dach. Wei\u00dfe, dreieckige Segel, gespannt zwischen einem riesigen Holzlattenger\u00fcst, trieben das Mahlwerk an.<br>Ein umgeklapptes Segel signalisierte den Bauern die Betriebsbereitschaft der M\u00fchle. Fortan arbeitete sie Tag und Nacht, und der Tagesablauf des M\u00fcllers richtete sich nach Ertr\u00e4gen sowie Wind und Wetter. Er genoss im Dorf Ansehen, oft als begnadeter Geschichtenerz\u00e4hler und bestens informiert \u00fcber alle Geschehnisse. Auch die Wettervorhersage oblag ihm \u2013 anhand der Segelstellung lasen die Dorfbewohner Wind und Wetter ab. An der M\u00fchle, wo der Aufenthalt meistens lang und langweilig wurde, entstanden Geschichten, Klatsch und Tratsch. Das monotone Wiegen der Windr\u00e4der inspirierte die Dichter und S\u00e4nger der Kykladen zu ihren Volksliedern. Today they are falling into disrepair or have been converted into modern shops, residential buildings or holiday accommodation. Only a few, truly intact examples bear witness to a way of thinking close to nature and inspire us to travel back in time to the pre-industrial era.<br>Windmills arrived in the Cyclades in the 12th and 13th centuries. Since then, tales and poems have grown up around these buildings, which have become the symbol of the archipelago. There were once around 600 windmills in operation in the Cyclades. Their locations were carefully selected according to wind strength and direction, with accessibility for the villagers also playing a role. They are perched on coastal hills and cliffs or utilise windy channels between hills.<br>The typical tower mill is a cylindrical stone building with a conical, thatched roof. White, triangular sails, stretched between a huge wooden slatted frame, powered the grinding mechanism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-garamond-font-family has-large-font-size wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"padding-right:var(--wp--preset--spacing--30);padding-left:var(--wp--preset--spacing--30);font-style:italic;font-weight:400\">A folded-down sail signalled to the farmers that the mill was ready for operation. From then on, the mill worked day and night and the miller&#8217;s daily routine depended on yields, wind and weather. He was held in high esteem in the village, often as a gifted storyteller and well-informed about all events. He was also responsible for forecasting the weather &#8211; the villagers read the wind and weather by the position of the sails. At the mill, where the stay was usually long and boring, stories, gossip and gossip arose. The monotonous swaying of the windmills inspired the poets and singers of the Cyclades to write their folk songs.
