Au\u00dferdem \u00fcbte Kalabrien einen \u00e4hnlichen Reiz auf mich aus wie Sizilien: eine gewisse Urspr\u00fcnglichkeit, wenig Tourismus und die geheimnisvolle Pr\u00e4senz der Camorra. Daher \u00fcberrascht es wohl kaum, dass Kalabrien nach Sizilien mein zweites Reiseziel in Italien wurde. Meine Erwartungen wurden nicht entt\u00e4uscht, und auch diese Reise hielt einige kuriose Erlebnisse bereit. So wurde mein Reisebegleiter Rainer kurzzeitig festgenommen, weil er in einem Bahnhof fotografiert hatte, und in den Bergen erlaubte uns ein Polizist sogar, auf einer Verkehrsinsel mitten im Dorf zu zelten.<br>Schon der Beginn der Reise gestaltete sich aufregend: Das Sila-Gebirge erreichten wir viel schneller als erwartet. Bedauerlicherweise vers\u00e4umten wir es dadurch jedoch, Proviant f\u00fcr unsere Wanderung einzukaufen und die Sila entpuppte sich zudem als deutlich d\u00fcnner besiedelt als aus den Karten ersichtlich. Das wiederrum bedeutet, dass wir drei Tage lang auf T\u00fctensuppen angewiesen waren.<br>Erste Station nach der Durchquerung der Sila war Crotone. Etwa zw\u00f6lf Kilometer s\u00fcd\u00f6stlich, am Capo Colonna, befindet sich die einzige erhaltene S\u00e4ule des griechischen Tempels der Hera Lacinia aus der Zeit der griechischen Kolonisation (8. bis 6. Jahrhundert v. Chr.). Obwohl nur noch eine S\u00e4ule steht, ist dieser Ort aufgrund seiner malerischen Lage direkt am Meer einen Besuch wert. Wir trafen kurz vor Sonnenuntergang ein, und ich konnte gerade noch die letzten Sonnenstrahlen, die die S\u00e4ule erfassten, mit meiner Kamera einfangen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\" style=\"margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--10);margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--10)\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-garamond-font-family has-large-font-size wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"padding-right:var(--wp--preset--spacing--30);padding-left:var(--wp--preset--spacing--30);font-style:italic;font-weight:700\">Temple column<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-garamond-font-family has-large-font-size wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"padding-right:var(--wp--preset--spacing--30);padding-left:var(--wp--preset--spacing--30);font-style:italic;font-weight:400\"><br>Capo Colonna near Crotone, east coast of Calabria, Italy, 1986<br><br>On my first trips to Sicily, I always found the early morning train journey along the Calabrian coast very exciting. Calabria also had a similar appeal to me as Sicily: a certain originality, little tourism and the mysterious presence of the Camorra. It is therefore hardly surprising that Calabria became my second destination in Italy after Sicily. My expectations were not disappointed, and this trip also had some curious experiences in store. For example, my travelling companion Rainer was briefly arrested for taking photographs in a train station, and in the mountains a policeman even allowed us to camp on a traffic island in the middle of the village.<br>Even the start of the journey was exciting: we reached the Sila Mountains much quicker than expected. Unfortunately, this meant we missed out on buying provisions for our hike and the Sila turned out to be much less populated than the maps showed. This in turn meant that we had to rely on packet soups for three days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-garamond-font-family has-large-font-size wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"padding-right:var(--wp--preset--spacing--30);padding-left:var(--wp--preset--spacing--30);font-style:italic;font-weight:400\">The first stop after crossing the Sila was Crotone. Around twelve kilometres to the south-east, at Capo Colonna, is the only surviving column of the Greek temple of Hera Lacinia from the time of Greek colonisation (8th to 6th century BC). Although only one column still stands, this place is well worth a visit due to its picturesque location right by the sea.
