Matthias und ich hatten diesen Ort, lange bevor wir uns auf den Weg machten, als ersten von drei m\u00f6glichen Treffpunkten mit jeweils einem Zeitfenster von drei Tagen festgelegt. Handys gab es damals noch nicht, weshalb eine Kontaktaufnahme nach Reisebeginn unm\u00f6glich war \u2013 eine Situation, die heute kaum vorstellbar ist.<br>Chittaurgarh selbst mag auf den ersten Blick nicht besonders spannend wirken, doch die Festungsanlage oberhalb der Stadt ist wahrhaft faszinierend. Da Matthias erst am dritten Tag unseres Zeitfensters eintraf, genoss ich zuvor ausgiebig die Gelegenheit, die wundersch\u00f6ne Anlage in aller Ruhe zu erkunden. Mein absolutes Highlight war Padmini&#8217;s Palace, ein kleiner Palast in einem k\u00fcnstlichen See, der einst einer Prinzessin als Residenz diente. Der Legende nach beging sie lieber Selbstmord, als sich von einem unerw\u00fcnschten Verehrer nach der Eroberung der Festung gefangen nehmen zu lassen. Heute steht an dieser Stelle eine Rekonstruktion aus dem fr\u00fchen 19. Jahrhundert, die zwar im Vergleich zu anderen Bauwerken der Festung weniger bedeutend ist, aber aus rein fotografischer Sicht die sch\u00f6nste Szenerie bietet.<br>Den Eindruck der \u00dcbernat\u00fcrlichkeit, der an die Geschichten aus Tausendundeiner Nacht erinnert, konnte ich durch die Verwendung eines Rotfilters bei der Aufnahme vom Ufer des &#8222;Wassertanks&#8220; noch verst\u00e4rken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\" style=\"margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--10);margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--10)\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-garamond-font-family has-large-font-size wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"padding-right:var(--wp--preset--spacing--30);padding-left:var(--wp--preset--spacing--30);font-style:italic;font-weight:700\">Padmini&#8217;s Palace<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-garamond-font-family has-large-font-size wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"padding-right:var(--wp--preset--spacing--30);padding-left:var(--wp--preset--spacing--30);font-style:italic;font-weight:400\"><br>Chittaurgarh in Rajasthan, India, 1989<br><br>Chittaurgarh was the first stop on my second trip to India, right after the Annapurna Trek in Nepal. Long before we set off, Matthias and I had decided on this place as the first of three possible meeting points, each with a time window of three days. Mobile phones didn&#8217;t exist back then, which made it impossible to contact each other once we had started our journey \u2013 a situation that is hard to imagine today.<br>Chittaurgarh itself may not seem particularly exciting at first glance, but the fortress above the town is truly fascinating. As Matthias didn&#8217;t arrive until the third day of our time slot, I took the opportunity to explore the beautiful complex at my leisure. My absolute highlight was Padmini&#8217;s Palace, a small palace in an artificial lake that once served as a residence for a princess. According to legend, she chose to commit suicide rather than be captured by an unwanted suitor after the conquest of the fortress.
