Eigentlich sollte es schon im Sommer 1985 in die Bretagne gehen, doch die Reise musste kurzfristig ausfallen. Erst im darauffolgenden Frühjahr, im März 1986, holten wir sie nach. Eine ungewöhnliche Zeit für diese Region! Entsprechend wenige Touristen waren unterwegs, allerdings war auch das Angebot an Unterkünften recht überschaubar. Eines hat mir diese verschobene Reise aber gezeigt, gerade zu ungewöhnlichen Jahres-/Reisezeiten kann man besondere und sehr spezielle Erlebnisse und Eindrücke gewinnen. Eine Erfahrung, die sich in den folgenden Jahren immer wieder bestätigen sollte. Die Bretagne im Frühjahr zeigte sich rau und herb, aber auch unerwartet mild.
Am Pointe du Château an der Côte de Granit Rose haben wir damals viel Zeit verbracht und die herrlichen Granitfelsen erkundet. Gegen Abend, als die Flut im vollen Gange war, habe ich dann diese tolle Lichtstimmung in einem großen Gezeitenpool gesehen und aufgenommen.

Côtes du Nord, Brittany, France, 1986

We had actually planned to go to Brittany in the summer of 1985, but the trip had to be cancelled at short notice. It wasn’t until the following spring, in March 1986, that we finally went. An unusual time of year for that region! Consequently, there were very few tourists about, though the choice of accommodation was also rather limited. However, this postponed trip taught me one thing: it is precisely during unusual times of year or off-peak travel seasons that you can gain unique and very special experiences and impressions. An insight that was to be confirmed time and again in the years that followed. Brittany in spring presented itself as rugged and austere, yet also unexpectedly mild.
We spent a lot of time at the Pointe du Château on the Côte de Granit Rose back then, exploring the magnificent granite cliffs. Towards evening, as the tide was coming in, I spotted and captured this wonderful play of light in a large tidal pool.
