Der Ararat: Mythos, sagenumwobene Landestelle der Arche Noah oder einfach nur ein majestätischer Vulkankegel mit schneebedeckter Kuppe? Schwer zu sagen – vermutlich ist er für jeden etwas anderes. In jedem Fall ist er ein imposanter Gipfel, der sich weit über die Hochebene von Kars erhebt. Ursprünglich war im Rahmen unserer Türkei-Syrien-Exkursion eine Besteigung des Ararat geplant, doch nur zwei Tage vor unserer Ankunft entzogen die türkischen Behörden kurzfristig die Genehmigung. Schade! Doch auf der Strecke zwischen Iğdır und Doğubayazıt passierten wir am späten Nachmittag den Çilli-Geçidi-Pass, der einen fantastischen Ausblick auf den Ararat bietet. Es war die eindrucksvollste Perspektive auf den Vulkan, da er von hier seine klassische Form zeigt und sich erhaben über die Landschaft erhebt. Ich konnte dort zwei sehr unterschiedliche Aufnahmen machen: eine klassische Aufnahme des Gipfels mit dem Teleobjektiv und dieses Weitwinkelbild, das durch die beiden Frauen mit ihren Kühen im Vordergrund eine ganz eigene Geschichte erzählt.

Mount Ararat: myth, the legendary landing site of Noah’s Ark, or simply a majestic volcanic cone with a snow-capped summit? It’s hard to say – it probably means something different to everyone. In any case, it is an imposing peak that rises high above the Kars plateau. Originally, an ascent of Ararat had been planned as part of our Turkey-Syria excursion, but just two days before our arrival, the Turkish authorities withdrew the permit at short notice. What a shame! However, on the route between Iğdır and Doğubayazıt, we passed the Çilli Geçidi Pass in the late afternoon, which offers a fantastic view of Ararat. It was the most impressive view of the volcano, as from here it reveals its classic shape, towering majestically above the landscape. I was able to take two very different shots there: a classic shot of the summit with a telephoto lens and this wide-angle image, which tells a story all of its own thanks to the two women with their cows in the foreground.
